Finding Your Light Within & Turning Your Passion Into Your Purpose
Recently I was undertaking the dreaded task of cleaning out my email inbox and started to read through old emails from my mom. One of them reminded me that we had been in talks about designing a website for her small business long before I ever really thought about becoming a website designer. This was in 2012, a whole 8 years before I began Sáasil Ichil Studio.
At the time my mom ended up hiring a professional to bring her vision to light but I remember dreaming up ideas of how her website might look and how to make it stand out from the other websites in her field. I remember feeling excited about my ideas and wishing I could be the one to bring them to reality, even though at the time I had zero experience in designing websites.
There were several instances connected to her like this, where she would recognize my intrinsic self and foresee how I might share my own light with the world.
I will always remember the other time my mom saw what my future might hold. She had a friend who’s son worked for Lululemon and continuously nagged me that I should work for the company and would preach all the benefits it might bring to me. But this was long before I ever became immersed in the yoga community and I distinctly remember telling her “I don’t want to be one of those people carrying around a yoga mat”.
I never took her seriously when she told me I should work for them and although I never did, I definitely ended up becoming one of those mat carrying yogis for awhile. It was one of the best eras of my life that brought so much growth and helped me to feel confident in my own skin and to finally be able to see the light that had always been within me.
My mom had this special gift to recognize who people were deep down and not what they necessarily presented to the world to fit in. She saw how magical life could be if only we would all follow our dreams, and somehow she knew what the future could hold if we choose to use our passions as our purpose.
When you look back on your life in reverse you can see this beautifully woven tapestry of how the light and the dark moments of your life intersect in perfect harmony.
But sometimes in the present it can be harder for us to understand the bigger picture and to see what our purpose in life might be. What’s important for us all to note is that each of us has our own unique intrinsic light inside us that is there from the beginning.
In order to figure out your life’s purpose you don’t have to look far. Just check in with yourself and ask what am I truly passionate about?
It’s so fascinating to me to think back on my own life’s journey and to see that every struggle has helped me grow, has made me more resilient, and has really led to something greater than I could have ever truly believed to be possible. This is the basis of why I do what I do.
I want to help others honour their deepest selves. I want more people to follow their passions, to dream big, to not spend their time in jobs that they hate. I want to help people bring their business online and to show the world who you are.
And now more than ever, the world needs your light.
“Don’t fight darkness — bring the light, and darkness will disappear.”
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, Speech (1960)
Are you ready to start sharing your light with the world?
